Sometimes in life, well, many many times in life, things don't go as planned. That was certainly the case in this image.
On this Friday night, my wife and I headed up to Ludington State Park in Michigan, made the almost 2-mile hike to Big Sable Lighthouse. I set up my camera and tripod about an hour and a half before sunset for this shot. I made sure my composition was what I wanted, got my focus all set, and then waited for the comet Neowise to show up.
The whole time waiting, I was wondering if Neowise was going to show up where I thought he was going to. There was a certain amount of anxiety in that. What I didn't realize, was that I had aimed my camera almost directly at a lamp outside the lighthouse. Kind of a big mistake in night photography. I became so focused on one thing, that I missed what was right in front of me.
I think that there is a huge life lesson here as well. Make sure you have a clear focus on what is right in front of you before you divert your attention to the periphery items. It's something I don't always succeed at... But I'll keep trying.
